ROLE IN NATIONAL NETWORKING ACTIVITIES
======================================

A description of your current employer, your position, your duties and
responsibilities, and how they relate to current and future data
networking activities in your country*
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
UCC is an ICT training and service provision company 100% owned by the University of Dar es Salaam.

UCC is the Regional Academy for Tanzania and my duties and responsibilities as country coordinator are to oversee the operations, expansion and sustainability of the Cisco Networking Academy in Tanzania, to teach the curriculum courses to students (I am authorized instructor for IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software, CCNA, CCNA Security and CCNP Switch: Implementing IP Switching), and to function as technical staff when the need arises.

With relation to the current and future data networking activities in my country, I teach network engineers and managers in a constant basis and this has an important influence in future data networking capacity in Tanzania.

A brief description of your computing and networking environment (operating systems,
networking software, modems, etc.), including the connectivity of your organization
to the Internet and your country's connectivity to the international Internet*
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My computing environment is a mixture of Microsoft Windows XP&7 in student computers, Linux (Fedora 14) in my laptop and Linux (Fedora 6 and 14) in the online materials servers. The connectivity of my organization to the Internet varies; some branches (we have 7 branches including the HQ) connect to independent ISPs and those in Dar es Salaam connects through wireless links to the HQ. Our connection to the Internet and my country's connectivity is though the fiber optic cable by SEACOM and a backup link through SimbaNet using fiber optic and satellite technologies.

Scope of your institution (check all categories that apply)*
------------------------------------------------------------
Commercial Network Provider
Academic Network Provider

Other: ICT Training and ICT Services Provider

Approximate number of full time staff at your institution*

How your training and current work prepare and qualify you for the track you wish to attend*
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My duties as an instructor for networking and operating systems give me a steady environment for skills development and delivery. My Cisco Academy coordination role needs me to assist local academies, which actually teach students and all UCC branches are such academies, with setting up of in-house online materials servers to minimize their consumption of Internet bandwidth and help keep costs down. The Cisco Networking Academy is a not-for-profit program and cost containment is critical to academy sustainability. As a coordinator and instructor the skills I will get in this course will benefit local academies and students directly.

How you expect to use the knowledge you gain at the workshop after you return to your country*
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The knowledge and skills I will gain in this training will be delivered to students through current and new courses. I have been among the leading instructors for the Linux Operating Systems in my organization and for networking in the country. My Academy coordination roles will allow me to assist academies with installation of secure optimized servers for student access.
